Who is SoundSwitch right for?
SoundSwitch is right for djs who want scripted tracks, beatgrid-synchronised autoloops and direct dj-software integration. Its own documentation calls it a Digital Lighting Workstation for synchronising lighting with DJ software, with an Edit Mode for building shows and a Performance Mode for playing them. If your set lives in supported DJ software and you want the lighting tied closely to that workflow, that is the product's centre of gravity.

SoundSwitch integrates directly with supported DJ software. Its compatibility documentation lists scripted tracks and autoloops for Serato DJ Pro and VirtualDJ, plus other synchronisation paths for tools including Ableton Live. HitLight has no DJ-software integration, no beatgrid input and no track-analysis workflow in v1.
SoundSwitch also runs on Windows. Its current minimum-requirements page lists Windows and macOS builds, while HitLight's app for physical DMX output is macOS-only and requires macOS 14 or later. If the show computer is Windows, SoundSwitch remains an option and HitLight does not.
A scripted track can reproduce lighting authored for a specific song and follow DJ transport changes. HitLight's Auto Show is deliberately less deterministic: it reacts to the audio in the room and generates eligible colour, intensity and movement live. It cannot promise the same authored cue at the same point in a particular recording.

What does HitLight do differently?
HitLight's Auto Show does not consume a DJ library, beatgrid or playback position. It listens through the Mac's system-default microphone and generates eligible colour, intensity, a steady open shutter and movement from what it hears. That makes the input source irrelevant: a request, an unreleased edit and live instruments all reach HitLight as room audio.
The tradeoff is anticipation. DJ-software integration can know where a prepared track is and recall lighting authored for it. A room microphone cannot know that a drop is eight bars away. HitLight reacts after the musical evidence arrives, so choose the SoundSwitch workflow when exact, repeatable, song-specific timing is the requirement.
- Plain-English scene programming. Describe a look and the assistant builds an ordinary editable scene from the fixture profiles actually patched in the show.
- A manual console remains available. Matrix scenes, cue lists, a multi-track timeline, palettes, a virtual console and MIDI learn all work without Auto Show.
