HitLight: DMX software for Windows

HitLight runs on 64-bit (x64) Windows 10 or Windows 11. It outputs DMX over Art-Net, sACN and ENTTEC USB interfaces, programs lighting scenes from plain-English descriptions, and runs Auto Show from the PC's microphone. A few features, including Auto Show from local song files, are still macOS only. HitLight is public beta software.

Key facts

What it runs on
64-bit (x64) Windows 10 or Windows 11. There is no Windows on Arm build.
Installing
The Windows app installs per user without administrator rights, and the installer fetches Microsoft WebView2 if the PC does not already have it.
DMX output
On Windows, HitLight outputs DMX over Art-Net, sACN, the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro and ENTTEC Open DMX USB. SIUDI support is experimental there too, and needs the WinUSB driver bound with Zadig.
Still macOS only
Per-app system-audio capture, AV output and editing a network adapter's IP address from inside HitLight are macOS only for now.

What does HitLight do on Windows?

The Windows app runs the engine, drives the rig and hosts Auto Show, as the Mac app does. MIDI controllers, the 3D stage, scenes, the timeline, collaboration with browser remotes and the AI assistant work on Windows as they do on the Mac. The assistant builds scenes from a description of the look you want, working from the fixture profile you patched, and every scene it makes is an ordinary scene you can edit by hand.

On Windows, Auto Show follows a microphone or audio input, or compatible players over Pro DJ Link. It drives colour, intensity and eligible movement from what it hears. Lighting safety lists the channels Auto Show refuses to drive, and why.

Which DMX interfaces work with HitLight on Windows?

On Windows, HitLight outputs DMX over Art-Net, sACN, the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro and ENTTEC Open DMX USB. SIUDI support is experimental there too, and needs the WinUSB driver bound with Zadig.

InterfaceConnectionStatusNotes
ENTTEC Open DMX USBUSBSupportedThe cheapest way to get one universe out of a Mac or a Windows PC. No locking connector.
ENTTEC DMX USB ProUSBSupportedBuffered and more tolerant of long or noisy cable runs than Open DMX.
Any Art-Net nodeEthernet or Wi-FiSupportedNo USB adapter required. After beta, Art-Net output is included in Pro, without add-on pricing per universe. Experienced operators tend to prefer a network node for the locking connector.
Any sACN (E1.31) nodeEthernet or Wi-FiSupportedThe other standard way to carry DMX over an ordinary network. Multicast by default.
SIUDIUSBExperimentalExperimental until hardware verification is complete. On Windows it needs the WinUSB driver bound with Zadig. Report your results to support@hitlight.app.

The full matrix, with the same statuses on macOS, is on supported hardware.

What is still macOS only?

These features depend on native capabilities the Windows app does not have, so HitLight does not offer them there. We would rather list them here than have you find them after installing.

There is still no Linux build, and no build for Windows on Arm. The browser app runs on any platform for authoring and 3D visualisation, but it cannot output DMX. Everything else HitLight cannot do is on what HitLight cannot do.

How does HitLight compare with free DMX software on Windows?

QLC+ is genuinely free, genuinely capable and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. If you are comfortable learning a console interface, it may be all you need. It is open source, and unlike HitLight it has a Linux build. HitLight takes a different route: you describe the look and the assistant programs it, or Auto Show runs the rig from the music in the room, and everything it produces stays editable by hand. HitLight is in beta. Every account includes Venue / Install at no cost during the beta, with no credit card required. After beta, Hobby / Student stays free for non-commercial use. Pro costs USD 19 per month or USD 149 per year. Venue / Install costs USD 999 per site per year. HitLight compared with QLC+ is the longer version, and choosing DMX software covers the rest of the field.

Where do you download HitLight for Windows?

Download the installer below. The Windows app installs per user without administrator rights, and the installer fetches Microsoft WebView2 if the PC does not already have it. Every build, with what changed in each, is on releases, and the Mac build is on download.
